Author Newsletters...Do I need one?

So you fancy yourself as an author. You have written the book, put it out there to the world, you have done all the social media posts you can think of but now you've been told newsletters are where it's at.

Email marketing is a beast all on its own! With all the things you need to consider as an author, email marketing specifically newsletters should be top of your priority list.

Newsletters are the bread and butter of email marketing. They don’t take as long as you might think if you stick to some key elements.

  1. Consistency is key! Decide how many newsletters you want to send out per month and stick to it. One a month to start off with is great! You can always add more later but stick to a certain date like the 1st of every month to get started.

  2. Repurpose your already fantastic content... remember that ALL of your readers might not see ALL your posts on social
media. Some might not even have social media, so a newsletter can comprise some of your informative social media posts
    and pictures.

  3. Keep your newsletters short and sweet. How many emails do you get and think I have no time to read that because it's way too long? I know that if there are more than a few words and no pictures I don't even bother reading it I just delete it. So keep it short and add pictures. For example, do you have your book cover release? (This should be a thing if it's not). Build the hype and once you have, send that new cover picture out to your email list letting them know where they can get it from on pre order and of course let them know the day the book is live.

  4. Don't forget the personal touches. Email newsletters can be a great way for your readers to connect with you as a person,
not just a product. They want to get to know you as you, not just the author they love to read. So don’t forget to let them in and show yourself. If a reader feels connected to you they are more likely to one click purchase your new book because they want to support you and they already know and trust you.
